ADAC Child Safety Testing

ADAC is an automobile club in Germany, founded in 1903, as German motor biker’s association, and renamed to General German Automobile Club (ADAC) its present name in 1911. It is a vehicle insurance company that is involved in the promotion of safety and product testing, including Child Car Seats.

ADAC cannot test all seats, they are preselected based on popularity, volume of sales and novelties, an example may be a seat that swivels. Seats are fundamentally tested to the appropriate ECE R44 or ECER129 Regulations. (ADAC tests above the regulation requirements e.g. Frontal crash requirements of the Regulation is 50km/h.) Since 2015 ADAC have used the body of a Golf V11 mounted on the test carriage. The test simulates a frontal collision of 64 km/h for the R44 Regulation and additionally, side impact at 50km/h simulating the penetration of the door as required in regulation R129. Seats are also checked for pollutants, chemicals in the cover, dyes and heavy metals are evaluated and tested.

At In Car Safety Centre, we specifically choose the seats that we stock because of their high quality and safety ratings. Many of our seats are awarded with ADAC scores, and whilst we don’t always think it is best to base your purchasing on the likes of ADAC scores, it is a good indicator of the quality of the seat. We always recommend that your purchase is based most importantly on the compatibility of the car seat with both your vehicle and your child. You can read more about car seat compatibility in our Safety Centre here.

Below we have listed which seats we stock that have ADAC scores. As mentioned, not all car seats are chosen to be tested and therefore, many seats we stock will not have ADAC scores, but this does not mean they are not safe. Here you will simply see the scores of those that have been tested. The lower the number, the higher the score.
