When fitting 3 child car seats, AKA child restraint systems (CRS), many factors need to be considered.
The space across the back seat, being the first. If you have 3 equal seat spaces, then you are in with a chance.
When fitting 3 CRS’s side by side, both size and combination will impact whether a fit is achieved or not.
Accessibility is a consideration too, for instance, when securing a High-Backed Booster Seat, you may find the adult seat belt receiver (the red bit) is covered by the seat and not accessible.
Your actual cars seats are designed for adults and not to accommodate CRS’s. Fundamental aspects like ‘supportive’ sides in the seat cushion will make fitting 3 in a row more difficult. It is, in fact, possible that Isofix seats will not work when used with Isofix fittings side by side. Instead, you can use adult seat belts if this is an option.
What can I do if I can’t fit 3 in a row?
You could consider changing your car, however, this may not be an option. If you cannot change your vehicle, the problem may be solved by changing the car seats you’re using.
Twins, Triplets etc may create other fitting challenges. Families with children that have a few years of separation between them may be trying to accommodate an infant carrier, a seat suitable for a toddler as well as a High Backed Booster (image featured - BeSafe Flex Fix 2 3 in a Row).
